Justin Keane: Owner, Head Trainer
Buoyed and inspired by my experiences training within the CrossFit methodology under the expert tutelage of CrossFit Boston's Neal Thompson and Again Faster's Jon Gilson, I founded Woodshed Fitness in 2009 with the intention of building a likeminded and inclusive gym community in the Acton, Concord, and Littleton areas--a team dedicated to the unwavering pursuit of fitness, nutrition, and results. I'm a CrossFit Level 1, CrossFit Nutrition, and CrossFit Olympic Weighlifting Certified Trainer with over 15 years of athletic experience within various programming modalities: bodybuilding routines to boot camps, heavy squats to spin classes, hill sprints to morning distance work. I firmly believe that strength training and a considered conditioning protocol charts the most effective path towards optimal physical fitness at any age, I look forward to helping you realize your goals.

As both a high school and collegiate athlete, I stayed fit primarily through long runs and sessions in the weight room, but always find myself the most fit during the middle of any given soccer season. Although I tried to stay fit post college, I never found myself in the same shape as in-season. While trying to get back to that point on my own, gains in fitness – strength, stamina, body composition – slowed while the amount of time I spent at the gym increased. Through family and friends I eventually discovered a new take on strength and conditioning in CrossFit. The WODs were exciting, there were rewarding new movements to learn and explore, and the CrossFit gym was a community of supportive, like minded people. And equally important, strength, stamina and body comp all moved in positive directions.
I truly believe the only way to understand the type of fitness that CrossFit offers is to try it for yourself. Optimal level fitness is found through proper training in strength and conditioning, professional coaching, and a supportive community – CrossFit Woodshed has all of those.

Soon after starting my undergraduate studies in exercise physiology, I quickly realized that the gym was no substitute for the high school athletics that I used to enjoy – I was surrounded by robots plugged into their i pods, counting reps and staring at themselves in the mirror. For the first time there was no one in front of me, next to me, or behind me encouraging me to push myself to my limits. My workouts became less intense, my drive to hit the gym fell short, and I found myself reading more about fitness than actually applying it. Finally, upon graduating and receiving my NASM training certification, I began coaching group boot camp sessions that re-created the energetic and competitive environment that I felt was missing from most commercial gyms. In 2009 I stepped into my first CrossFit gym and was exposed to an entirely new world of group training. As ropes and rings hung from the ceiling, chalk whirled through the air, and the crisp smell of rubber bumper plates infused my t-shirt, I instantly fell in love with my new playground. Since then, the CrossFit methodology has added a variety of challenging new movements, techniques, and skills that I had never imagined including into my training. More importantly, it has made my programming challenging and fun, a combination that is hard to stay away from.
Jamie Paul: CPT, Specialist in Fitness Nutrition
I have been training my own strength and conditioning since my freshman year of college, though I initially viewed it as an annoying and timely obligation during the off seasons for my softball career. Since then, I’ve taken a much more active role in my health and have attempted many different approaches along the way. Like many, I suffered from the “Freshman 20” (that’s a real thing, right?) and spent the next four years trying different physical and nutritional approaches to weight loss, including counting calories, running endless miles, interval training, “functional” ab work, intermittent fasting, near-vegetarianism, and yoga. Some things worked for me, some things did not, but it was a lot of trial and error. Upon graduating from Bowdoin College, I had a wonderful opportunity to be a part of opening a franchise gym called “Anytime Fitness,” and to become a Certified Personal Trainer. I love being able to use my experiences and knowledge to help others navigate the waters and find what works best for them. Of all my fitness experiments, CrossFit is the one that has stuck – mentally and physically, I can’t speak highly enough of the results I’ve seen and the experiences I’ve had training (and being trained) at CrossFit Woodshed.
